"Saturn Ring and Meteor" explores a complex yet ordered system formed through the grouping of individual elements. The three-part series presents, in each of its paired sheets, a single meteor placed opposite a ring structure composed of 20,000 individual points.
Much like the actual rings of Saturn—where the arrangement of ice and dust particles follows physical laws to form an extremely thin yet expansive structure encircling the planet—the artificially constructed ring in this work is also formed by specific rules, based on probabilities and mathematical condensation. The piece reveals an internal logic in which complexity arises from the systematic distribution of the simplest units.
While the details may appear chaotic, irregular, and lacking any obvious structure, a geometric form emerges from a distance—calm, coherent, and visually graspable. The opposing meteor, as a part detached from this order, points back to the totality of points that together constitute the ring structure.
The ring was realized as an copperplate etching; the meteor was created using the Chine Collé technique.
